Abstract

The development of the digital world cannot be avoided from our daily lives. Digitalization of learning must be adaptive and familiar with the many social media that are popular with the millennial generation. One of them is Instagram. Behind the interesting features, we provide challenges to the critical thinking skills of students, especially at the high school level. With a quantitative descriptive approach of the experimental type, this study aims to determine the effect of learning with Instagram content on the critical thinking skills of students at SMA Negeri 1 Garum. The existence of a control class and an experimental class proves that the use of Instagram social media as a learning medium has a significant and positive effect on improving the critical reasoning skills of high school students. The experimental class that uses Instagram obtained a higher average critical score (144.75) with a more homogeneous variation in results compared to the control class (132.50). The average difference of 12.250 points, a significance value of 0.002 (<0.05), and a t count of 3.158 (> t table 1.669), all confirm that the differences are statistically significant.
